Gonzaga takes down Boys’ Latin

Still early in the season, Gonzaga’s High School lacrosse program put out quite a statement with a big win over last years’ top team in the nation, Boy’s Latin, on March 10.

Coming off a 16-5 season earning Gonzaga the 28th rank in the DigitalSports National Lacrosse Rankings, the Purple Eagles looked to enter this year with the extra edge to put them in the top tier.  Thus far, Gonzaga has done just that, dominating in its first two games.

For Boys’ Latin, it was the undefeated national champ’s first game back, and though there may have been some rust on the Lakers’ sticks, Gonzaga stole the show.

After a 1-1 first quarter, the Eagles broke out in the second quarter, taking a 7-2 lead into halftime.  By that point, Timmy Monahan already a hat trick.

The scoring did not stop in the third, pushing Gonzaga to 11-3 going into the third quarter.  The margin was too large for Boys’ Latin to overcome and the Purple Eagles walked away with a 13-6 victory.

Gonzaga’s defense was superb all game, never letting the powerful Laker offense gain any ground.

On top of that, the Eagles shared the scoring on offense with eight different goal scorers.  Luke McCaleb joined Monahan with a hat trick and Avery Myers added on another two.

Gonzaga gets back on the field to face St. Albans this Saturday, March 14.
