Yesterday, the Gonzaga Purple Eagles traveled up Rhode Island Avenue to College Park In search for a fourth straight WCAC boys’ lacrosse championship title, while Paul VI looked to make their mark in the WCAC championship game and put an end to a dynasty.

Paul VI opened the game aggressively, netting the first goal of the game by senior attackman Logan Aunon.  Gonzaga answer right back piling on a 5-2 scoring streak in the first, giving the Eagles a 5-3 lead heading into the second.

The Gonzaga Eagles did not let lightning strike twice, as they were able to put together another 4-1 goal run giving them a commanding 9-4 lead early in the third.  The Panthers however did not lay down for the Eagles as they to put together a string of goals outscoring the Eagles 6-1, nearly putting an end to Gonzaga’s dynasty in the third quarter.  Senior Chris Camarca tied the game up at 10 after receiving a crisp pass from fellow teammate and senior Connor Murphy with 7:32 left in the contest.

Gonzaga only trailed for a few seconds once senior Jimmy Kuzman scored a quick goal, putting the team ahead. Both teams traded goals once again, but it wasn’t until Senior Alex Corby rocketed one to the back of the Panthers net that the Eagles would ice the game.

The final horn sounded with a final score 13-11 and an Eagles Victory, adding the fourth straight WCAC victory to their trophy case.

Key Players:

– Alex Corboy had four goals

– Joe Fitzpatrick and Jimmy Kuzma each had two goals.

– Max Planning had two assists and one goal

The Eagles finished their WCAC season at the #2 spot on the DigitalSports National Lacrosse Rankings, with a lot of HS playoff lacrosse left to go in Maryland when the State Playoffs begin Friday May 17th.  Be sure to make DigitalSports.com your first stop to see what happens next as Gonzaga advances.
